Teaching & Learning

Literacy

Literacy is the key to success for students across the curriculum. We believe that all students can achieve high standards in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

Numeracy

A whole school coordinated approach sets high expectations and beliefs about the teaching and learning of numeracy.

Our beliefs about the teaching of numeracy incorporate a whole-part-whole approach, where teachers model and teach strategies explicitly, and then students work independently or with the teacher to practise the mathematical strategies taught

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Program at Ballarat North Primary School encourages the creative potential of all students by allowing them to express their creativity through a wide range of artistic experiences. Students explore a variety of activities including painting, drawing, construction, printing, collage, modelling and textiles.

Performing Arts

At Ballarat North Primary School, we offer a highly engaging Performing Arts specialist program. This program covers Music, Dance and Drama elements with a focus on creativity, exploration and participation.

Japanese

At Ballarat North Primary School, we offer an engaging Japanese Program taught by an experienced Japanese teacher. Our students are fortunate to have a modern Japanese room designated to showcase their work and display Japanese artefacts.

Library

At Ballarat North Primary School, we are fortunate to have a welcoming and bright library space with thousands of interesting books.

Physical Education

The Physical Education program aims to provide a positive experience for all students encouraging them to be physically active, as well as gaining an understanding of the importance of overall health.

Student Wellbeing

To support transition into the school, we have a highly successful Better Buddies Program. All Grade 6 students are paired with a Grade Prep student where they act as a mentor and positive role model.

Specialised Programs

At Ballarat North Primary School, we endeavour to create a safe and nurturing learning environment in which all staff members are committed to developing supportive relationships with our students. We have a range of educational options to assist students, with special learning needs, who have been identified as requiring additional support.

Extra Curricula Activities

At Ballarat North Primary School, we offer a broad range of extra curricula activities to ensure an engaging curriculum where students have the opportunity to explore areas of interest and build on their talents.

Student Leadership

At our school, we provide a range of student leadership opportunities. We have high expectations of all students and believe all senior students have the ability to be excellent role models displaying our school values to a high level.

Indigenous Students

Since the earliest human history, humans have gathered in circles to connect and learn.  At Ballarat North Primary School our Yarning Circle provides a safe, non-judgmental, place for our indigenous students to share their thoughts and strengths and to come together for a collaborative learning experience.

Ballarat North Primary School acknowledges the Wadawurrung People as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school sits.
We pay our respects to all Aboriginal people, their culture and their elders: past, present, future and emerging.
